My Concert Tour with Russian Philharmonic Orchestra

I believe this unique opportunity has come from my long love to film music.
The idea of performing beautiful film music in piano concerto style is very exciting! God gave me this opportunity 2 weeks before my birthday as a very special present! I learned a lot, and knowing that there are more to learn!
I had several roles to play during this concert tour: as a programme presenter, a page turner, a language translator, a member of the orchestra to play the piano part, and as a concerto soloist as well! The schedule was actually quite tough, and the most important thing I learned through the whole tour was that one had to be so ready all the time to fact any possible and impossible situations…
The conductor Mak gave me two pieces Gone with the Wind and Casablanca 2 weeks before the concerts. He arranged Gone with the Wind  for me and gave me Casablanca to arrange by myself since he's too madly busy… I remembered that evening when I recieved the draft of Casablanca and was wondering how to recreate this rather cheesy tune As Time Goes By in a more noble and classical manner. With my genius friend Neil's magical help, we finished the piece next morning: the pianistic ideas were very much inspired by Ravel's concerto in G and Rachmaninov's Pagannini Variation XVIII.  We transformed this pop tune into a romantic piano concerto in a night!
The concert tour was packed with travellings and rehearsals of different programmes. At the end, I had only one chance to rehearse the two pieces with the orchestra, 1.5 hour before the actual concert in Taichung and the rehearsal lasts only 15 mintues… The situation in Hsin Chu performance was worse! Even just 1 hour before the concert, I had to still rehearse the broadway programme with the just-arrived singers. Unlike all my other concerts that I kept calm to contemplate the music for the performance, my mind was busy with 24 new broadway songs! Not the best way to prepare for a concert, but it was the way it is! I could only be positive and kept believing that I knew my pieces well enough… quite stressful, actaully!
The concert began with an overtue, then I walked to the piano at the middle of the stage to perform for 2000 people. At the moment when I played the first note, I understood why everytime I had to suffer from all the stress for this very moment! Stage is such an acttractive space! I cannot explain the feeling and joy of expressing human emotions and ideas by the creation of beautiful sound and mood… and I forgot all the nerves and worries. The world went frozened, and the only existence at that moment was, the music!
Whether I had touched anybody will remain unknown. What I know is I have to perform. The urge to express myself through music.
The performance was not the result of extra hard work for 2 weeks. It's the accumulation of daily practises for years. To keep up the daily practise is probably more difficult than the actual performance, I believe! Regular practising keeps one fit and ready always! It's the discipline refines the fianl work.
I felt so grateful to have worked with the Russians. They are very quick and experienced, and really professional! And they are so nice to me! They gave up their seats for me on coach, carried my luggages for me, and taught me Russians… although they did not speak english and I did not speak any Russian, we communicated well! Music is the best language, I guess!
After the concert tour, I stayed one week at home to enjoy warm moments with family and wonderful food in Taiwan!
I was 'well-fed', both physically and spiritually!
